About Borgloon

The pearl of Haspengouw

Rich history

Borgloon, a pleasant town, located in the rolling Haspengouw, once a fortified city from which the counts of Loon ruled over their county that at its peak equaled the current province of Limburg in size. The name Borgloon is composed of 'Borg' and 'Loon' which means: 'Castle in the middle of a wooded hill'. Numerous sights refer to the rich cultural-historical past of our "Count's Town".

PIT - Kunst in Open Ruimte

PIT, art in the open space in Borgloon (and Heers), is unique in Flanders and its surroundings. It takes place at the intersection between art, architecture and landscape. The artworks allow passers-by and visitors to view the surroundings differently.
One of the eye-catchers of PIT is the see-through church of the Belgian architect duo Gijs Van Vaerenbergh (Pieterjan Gijs and Arnout Van Vaerenbergh). Reading between the Lines is 10 meters high and consists of 100 layers of steel plate stacked on top of each other in the form of a Loons church.
